Marques Anthony: Precision Over Pressure

Marques Anthony
Marques Anthony

Marques Anthony isn’t introducing himself anymore—he’s tightening his sound and letting it speak for itself. There’s a calm control in the way he moves now, like an artist who’s done proving and started refining. Nothing feels rushed or overworked; every choice feels intentional.

You hear the foundation in it—church-trained harmonies, studio discipline, and an instinct for space most R&B overlooks. He doesn’t overload records; he lets them breathe, then lands the moment exactly where it needs to hit.

What stands out now is clarity. He’s not chasing lanes or validation—he’s locking into his own. Less noise, more precision. More identity in the restraint.

Q: Now that “Twin” has been out in the world since April, what’s been the most surprising reaction you’ve seen from listeners connecting to it?

MA: My biggest surprise has been watching the fellas connect to “Twin.” Obviously, as an R&B singer, you’re going to build a dominant female fan base, but the challenge is getting men to connect with the music as well. So to see the fellas tapping in with “Twin” is dope and a win for me and my team.

Q: “Twin” feels deeper than a typical love record — did you know while recording it that people would relate to that idea of emotional alignment so strongly?

MA: I absolutely knew they would, as well as connect with the idea of calling your partner “twin.” It’s what we all look for in a relationship—finding that one person who matches your energy, likes, movements, and understands you emotionally and spiritually.

Q: Looking back now, what does “Twin” represent for you personally in this current chapter of your life and career?

MA: In my life, “Twin” is a daily reminder of consistency and focus. Where I am right now in my career is a transitional phase, and “Twin” is a reminder of the partner and energy I want.

Q: Compared to “Say Yes,” “Twin” feels lighter, warmer, and more effortless — was showing that different shade of connection intentional?

MA: In creating this album, I wanted every sound of R&B I’ve heard in my lifetime to be wrapped up in these 11 songs, while still creating a modern, fresh sound. The type of R&B I’m used to is undefeated and will continue to win.

jQ: The production on “Twin” feels smooth without overdoing anything — how important is restraint and space in your sound right now?

MA: The sound is everything. People hear the music before they hear the song, so it’s very important to lock into the right sound with every record I work on. I’m really picky when I’m listening to tracks or creating because I’ve always believed the track gets your attention, but the lyric and melody keep you.

Q: You grew up surrounded by church music, live instruments, and harmony — how much of that foundation still quietly shapes your records today?

MA: It’s called a foundation for a reason. Gospel music is, and will always be, a very big part of my life and sound. When you’re raised in something as a child, you don’t understand its true value until you’re at the age where you begin to live out the songs you’ve been singing. You can hear it in my harmonies, background vocals, lead vocals, and instrumentation.

Q: You’ve spent years contributing behind the scenes while building your own artistry — does this era feel like the first time people are seeing the full Marques Anthony?

MA: They are definitely going to see Marques Anthony in my true form. The great thing about the team I have now is they let me be myself in every way—from the creation process of the music to the energy that comes with being in my presence. Some people have to develop into a star. I was born a star.

Q: From Foxxhole Radio internships to global stages with Jamie Foxx, what lessons from that grind still stay with you every time you enter a studio?

MA: Work harder than I did yesterday. Know and understand the business. Don’t underestimate anyone. Believe in yourself first. And don’t let anyone dim your light.

Q: Your recent music feels more confident, intentional, and emotionally balanced — what changed creatively between then and now?

MA: I purposely surrounded myself with specific writers and producers who I knew could execute at a high level and help bring this vision and sound to life. Once the team was formed, I knew I had everything needed to succeed confidently, intentionally, and emotionally.

Q: With “EGO,” “Say Yes,” and “Twin,” it feels like you’re building different emotional layers instead of chasing one sound — is that part of the bigger vision moving forward?

MA: As an artist, you never want to be locked into one sound. For me, diversity is very important and allows you to thrive in multiple environments. I’ll never allow myself to be an R&B artist stuck in one lane.

Q: What can fans expect next — another summer vibe, something more vulnerable, or a completely different side of Marques Anthony altogether?

MA: What’s to come is going to send fans in a whole different direction. It’s summertime, I’m a Leo, so it’s only right we party all summer. We hitting day parties, clubs, party buses, yachts, etc. with the next single. The song is called BENT.

Q: As you step deeper into this new era with Rock Room Entertainment, what kind of legacy are you trying to build beyond just making hits?

MA: I plan on building a legacy that will extend way beyond me, filled with hard work, compassion, and sacrifice. Community engagement is a big thing for me outside of my musical career—pouring back into kids and giving them hope for a brighter future beyond what they see in the moment means everything to me. Most importantly, I want to leave a path to success for my kids and my family. To be able to lead by example and guide them down whatever path they choose toward greatness is my ultimate goal.
