Honey Bxby: The Next Era

Honey Bxby
Honey Bxby

Currently gearing up for the release of her eagerly awaited Extended Play, which arrives May 30th, The Garden State’s own R&B chanteuse, Honey Bxby, is the genuine article. Her just unveiled latest offering, “Think I Might,” is only further proof that this rising songbird is definitely here for the long haul…

Let’s hop into your previous single / video, "Right On Time"  — Tell me about this particular track; how did it come to fruition?

Well, Fresh already had the idea for the hook, and we built the rest around that. It's just going through the motions and conversation when you’re over someone and reminding them that there’s always someone ready to take your place and do your job correctly.

Of course "Right On Time" comes courtesy of your still forthcoming EP, Raw Honey -- Conceptually, what does this title represent both to and for you?

Real raw, unfiltered and unapologetic. All words I would use to describe me and my music, and that’s what Raw Honey is.

Raw Honey is a Rebirth Entertainment / Warner Records project -- What particular string of events actually led to your current signing?

Just working, and continuously making music and showing my face. I was in a previous situation that led to me being here at Warner. I’ve been signed to Rebirth since 2023, that’s never gonna change.

You recently embarked on SAINt JHN's Festival Season Tour -- For someone who has yet to witness you all the way live, what exactly would you tell that person can be expected?

Fun! Vibes, a good time. That’s all it’s about when I’m on stage and making people feel that.

Tell me your whole inception into music — When did you first become interested in it? And how did it all begin for Honey Bxby?

I’ve been into music since I was a baby. I knew who I wanted to be and who I WAS gonna be. It was my only interest. But Honey came in 2018 / ‘19 when I took the first steps into embarking on my ACTUAL music journey. That’s when I was ready.

Now you’re from Asbury Park, NJ, correct? So growing up in "The Dark City," who all did / do you consider to be your strongest musical influences?

Definitely Drake and Kehlani, and as a child I was heavily influenced by Miley Cyrus.

That said, how do you describe and / or define the style of music that you create and / or perform?

Like in the previous question, raw and unfiltered, even chaotic!

Now as a songwriter when you sit down to pen your lyrics, where do you draw inspiration from?

Real-life situations and emotions are where I’m able to pull from and properly express myself.

Where does your moniker originally derive from?

A Bryson Tiller song, “Honey.” When I would write music where I was talking shit, I started calling myself Honey Baby. The X in the Bxby came from my Instagram name because someone already had @itshoneybaby.

Switching gears here, what exactly do you want people to get from your music?

To be able to relate to it and to know that you are not alone in any situation, even the most outrageous ones.

If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Drake, he’s my favorite artist!

If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?

It would be Barclays or MSG. I did Barclays, but I haven't done MSG yet. But I want to do those on my own and sell them out, which I’ll do eventually.

On a more serious note, are you happy with the current state of R&B?

Yes! There are so many amazing artists in the R&B space. I never felt like it died, ever.

What do you feel has and will continue to be the key to your longevity?

Being who I am, without a care in the world. Living life in my truth, being authentic and lovingggg who I am. Making the music I make without a care in the world. There’s only one me. That’s my key.

Do you have any other outside / additional (future) aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?

Yes, of course. I want to get into TV and build my own brand, definitely in the beauty industry.

To date, what has been your biggest career moment(s), at least thus far anyway?

I’ve had a lot, but right now it’s definitely dropping this project. I have such a strong love for these songs and I know that this project is gonna change my life in the best way possible.

What’s an average day like for you?

Depends. If I’m not working, I’m definitely home playing The Sims or watching one of my shows. When I’m working, it’s interview after interview, maybe a session or performance. The days can get long!

Please discuss how you interact with and respond to fans...

I use social media; it’s easy to converse with my supporters that way. I reply to comments and DMs!

What is your favorite part about this line of work? Your least favorite? And, why?

Being able to do what I love!!! I’m never bored. My least favorite? Having to deal with so many other opinions.

What advice would you have for someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?

I always say just keep working, never give up! Find your people, your team, stay true to yourself, and stay away from negativity.

Looking ahead, say five or maybe even ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

#1 artist in the world. Definitely be in a movie or two. Multiple platinum records. A #1 album or 2 or 3!

As for the immediate, what's next for Honey Bxby?

Raw Honey is next, the next era.
