Dericc

Dericc is the name about to blow up every speaker. Hailing from Los Angeles, this relentless force in R&B is breaking through with raw, unfiltered lyrics, soul-shaking vocals, and a sound that demands your attention. His debut entry, “Can’t Trust Myself,” is just a small preview of the storm he’s about to unleash. Dericc isn’t just making noise; he’s here to dominate and rewrite the game.

Q: Let’s hop into this single, “Can’t Trust Myself” — how did this particular track come to fruition?

Dericc: “Can’t Trust Myself” came from a very honest place. I was dealing with a moment where I knew better, but still felt pulled in the wrong direction. I wanted to write about that internal battle—when your heart and your mind aren’t on the same page. The song came together naturally once I stopped overthinking and just told the truth. It’s one of those records where I didn’t try to sound perfect, I just tried to sound real.

Q: As a songwriter, where do you draw inspiration from?

Dericc: Life, honestly. My relationships, my mistakes, my growth, conversations I’ve had, things I wish I said differently. I’m inspired by emotions more than moments. If something makes me feel deeply—good or bad—I usually turn that into music.

Q: Tell me about your musical beginnings. When did this journey start for you?

Dericc: Music has always been around me, but I started taking it seriously in my late teens. At first, it was just a way to express myself, but once I realized people were actually connecting to what I was making, it became bigger than me. That’s when I knew this wasn’t just a phase—it was my path.

Q: Growing up in the ‘City of Angels,’ who were some of your biggest influences?

Dericc: Growing up in L.A., you’re surrounded by culture, creativity, and hustle. Musically, I was influenced by artists who blended emotion with confidence—people who could be vulnerable but still command a room. On the R&B side, artists like Usher, R. Kelly, Joe, and Donell Jones really shaped how I think about emotion and storytelling in music—the way they could be vulnerable, confident, and melodic all at once. I also took a lot from D’Angelo and Maxwell, especially when it comes to soul and feeling, not just singing notes. From hip-hop, 2Pac had a huge impact on me—not just musically, but in how he spoke his truth with no filter. Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre influenced my sense of rhythm, confidence, and West Coast identity, while artists like Nas showed me the power of lyricism and honesty. That mix of soulful R&B and real, expressive hip-hop is what really shaped my sound and who I am as an artist today.

Q: How do you define your style?

Dericc: I’d say it’s modern R&B with soul. Smooth but honest. Emotional but grounded. I want my music to feel like a late-night conversation—intimate, reflective, and real.

Q: What do you hope people take away from your music?

Dericc: I hope people feel understood. I want listeners to hear my music and feel like they’re not alone in what they’re going through. If my songs help someone process their emotions or see themselves more clearly, then I’ve done my job.

Q: Dream collaboration — who would it be?

Dericc: That’s tough, but I’d love to collaborate with someone who really values artistry and emotion. Someone who pushes boundaries but stays authentic. I’m more focused on the energy than the name.

Q: If you could play any venue in the world, where would it be?

Dericc: Honestly, any venue where the crowd is fully locked in. But playing a sold-out hometown show in Los Angeles would mean everything to me.

Q: How do you feel about the current state of R&B?

Dericc: I think R&B is in a great place creatively. Artists are experimenting and being more honest than ever. There’s room for different sounds, different stories. I’m excited to be part of this generation and help push the genre forward.

Q: What’s gonna be the key to your longevity?

Dericc: Staying true to myself. Not chasing trends, but evolving naturally. Longevity comes from honesty, consistency, and respecting the craft.

Q: Beyond music, what else, if anything, do you want to do?

Dericc: I’m interested in anything creative—fashion, visuals, storytelling. I see myself expanding into spaces that allow me to express who I am beyond just music.

Q: Biggest career moments thus far?

Dericc: Seeing my music start to gain real industry attention has been huge. But honestly, the biggest moments are when listeners tell me my music helped them through something personal.

Q: What’s an average day like for you?

Dericc: There’s really no “average” day, but it usually involves creating—writing, recording, listening to new music, planning what’s next. Even on quieter days, my mind is always on the bigger picture.

Q: How do you interact with your fans?

Dericc: I try to stay connected and genuine. I read messages, respond when I can, and really take in what people say about the music. My fans are part of this journey with me.

Q: Favorite and least favorite parts of this work?

Dericc: My favorite part is creating something from nothing and seeing it resonate with people. The hardest part is the patience—waiting, trusting the process—but I know it’s all part of the journey.

Q: What advice would you give to someone following in your footsteps?

Dericc: Be yourself and don’t rush. Learn the business, respect the craft, and don’t let outside noise shape your identity. Authenticity always wins in the long run.

Q: Five to ten years from now, where do you see yourself?

Dericc: I see myself established, still creating meaningful music, and having a body of work I’m proud of. I want longevity, not just moments.

Q: What’s next for you, Dericc?

Dericc: More music, more visuals, and continuing to build my sound and my story. “Can’t Trust Myself” is just the beginning.

Q: Any parting words for our readers?

Dericc: Thank you for listening and supporting real music. Stay true to yourself, trust your journey, and don’t be afraid to feel deeply.
