Hailing from the Motor City, singer-songwriter-actress Terry Dexter initially began as a child prodigy whose first foray into performing professionally was at the tender age of 9. While serving as the lead vocalist for four piece band Tristar, Dexter would also go on to provide backgrounds for other artists; most notably Simply Red.

Formed in the beginning of the nineties at ‘The Mecca,’ a private, historically black, university located in Washington, D.C., Shai, then comprised of Carl "Groove" Martin, Darnell Van Rensalier, Marc Gay and (lastly) Garfield Bright, literally hit pay dirt with the release of their outstanding premiere offering, “If I Ever Fall in Love,” an a cappella number, and its equally impressive “Grooves Bedroom Mix” version.

Initially signing with indie imprint Big Boy Records, where Southern Hip Hop veteran rapper-songwriter-producer Fiend, née Richard Jones, would soon reveal his ‘95 debut LP, I Won't Be Denied. Shortly thereafter, the self-proclaimed International Jones, who was raised in the Hollygrove neighborhood of New Orleans' 17th Ward, found himself aligning with Master P's No Limit Records.
